Name of PI: Dr. Kenneth R. Pugh

Current Projects:
We are currently conducting two NIH-funded longitudinal studies of children at risk for reading disabilities incorporating genetic analysis, multiple neuroimaging techniques, and extensive cognitive/behavioral testing. Initial discoveries from these ongoing longitudinal studies have led to a deeper understanding of the relationship between atypical brain organization for language and reading and early performance. We examined activation of brain regions during fMRI for simple reading and listening tasks, and found strong associations with: 1) problems with early reading-readiness skills such as phonological awareness; and 2) risk factors for language and reading disorders such as late onset of speech.
